  • Aomori Prefecture is located farthest north on the main island of Japan.
Local Information

In 2010, the Tohoku Shinkansen opened the route from Morioka to Shin-Aomori Station, completing the line. The prefectural flower is the apple flower.

Agriculture, forestry and fishing are the major industries in Aomori. More than half of the apple and garlic production in Japan occurs in Aomori. Oma tuna, the tuna caught in Oma area has been established as one of the best tuna and is very popular. In summer, “The Aomori Nebuta Festival” and “The Hirosaki Neputa Festival” draw a large crowd, and they are considered the major festivals in the Tohoku region. Tsugaru-jamisen is the folk music unique to this region, and its special method of striking the instrument and improvisation create attractive musical sound. Aomori Prefecture is rich with nature. Aoike, one of the very famous spots in Juniko, is a breathtaking blue pond with high water transparency. It is located in the World Heritage, Shirakami-Sanchi.
